Name: Shahryar Bachani, Class of 2012

University: New York University, Stern School of Business

Course: BSc in Business & Political Economy, with a minor in Social Entrepreneurship

No matter how much I had immersed myself into the Nixor Community, I continued to be overwhelmed by the amazing things that were being accomplished on a daily basis by my peers. For a lot of students including myself, the Core Values became a way of life, and for good cause. Whether it was Student Government or Nixor Corporate, I learned how crucial experiential learning is to education and to one’s personal and professional development. With the Dean’s mentorship and a plethora of different academic and extracurricular engagements, I managed to make the most of my two years at Nixor. Everything I did continues to be a constant reminder to what my true potential is. Something I would not have been able to see without my Nixor experience. All that I learnt and all that I cherished still continues to help me to this very day.

As a junior at the NYU Stern School of Business, I have been able to excel and been able to pursue my professional aspirations: all because I developed an understanding of business acumen from an early onset and had the discipline and diligence to successfully compete for some of the most sought after careers post-graduation. In addition to this, my teamwork and leadership experiences at Nixor allowed me to be confident enough to explore different opportunities available to me at NYU and Stern making me an adaptable team player in the process.

Nixor College is and always will be a home for me. Not only because of the countless memories I have associated with my time there, not because of the many legacies I have left there in my service to different organizations there, but most importantly because of everything I was able to learn from a community of inspiring individuals and for all I gave and continue to give back to the community that made me who I am today. Nostalgia is one thing but when you are able to talk about all your achievements proudly to this day just because they serve to be so truly unique, you know that you made the right decision to walk through those black gates 5 years ago.

The O-Levels program will enable a group of very fortunate students to hopefully experience what I did, should they choose to fully commit to the vision of the institution they have just been admitted to. Not only will you have more time to create an impact and also more time to refine yourself as a student, leader, professional but most importantly as a Pakistani who is ready to be a responsible representative in the larger global community.

A chant is usually a proclamation of some belief. Go Sharks is one such chant. However, not only does it act as a proclamation to strive but to persevere as an Ambassador of what Nixor is and what is aims to achieve.
