Nixor College Foundation Program

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the minimum grade requirement for admissions at NCFP?

Even though grades are critical in NCFP’s evaluation process, strong emphasis is placed on the person’s character and extracurricular involvement. Although the Nixor College Foundation Program does not have a minimum grade requirement we do not compromise on character.

Having said that, NCFP does have minimum grade requirements for each A Level subject. Please click here for the minimum grades required for each A Level subject.

Why are students prohibited from taking tuitions at Nixor?

It is conceivable that a student may need additional help to cope with the rigors of the A level curriculum. To this end, the Nixor College Foundation Program is structured to provide students with mandatory instruction by Teacher's Assistants for every hour of faculty taught class everyday. The TA program augments faculty instruction and allows students to ask questions based on individual levels of comprehension of course material.

NCFP is too new. Why should I come to NCFP when there are other A level schools that have been there for a while?

Yes, NCFP is a relatively new school with an even newer approach to education relative to most, if not all, A Level colleges in Karachi and maybe even the country. But, a very experienced faculty allows us to deliver an A Level education program tailored specifically to the needs of the segment it serves. Dean’s response: “If someone asked me to choose between 100 years of history and 100 years of future, at any time of the day I will choose the future and build the history. Nixor is unencumbered by the baggage of history. Yes traditions have their place but innovation is the lifeblood of success”.

Is The Nixor College Foundation Program a school for dumb kids?

Such a distorted view only begs to question a persons understanding of education. Every instructor that teaches at NCFP also teaches at the Main Campus, with most instructors delivering at exactly the same pace as their respective classes on the other campus. Not only are NCFP students at par with those on Main in terms of content, but here they work at least twice as hard as others to maintain the structure and discipline required in getting the most out of not just NCFP's, but any A Level program. Academic evaluations are carried out weekly, and parents of NCFP students are informed of their child's academic progress, in writing, every month. Together with top notch faculty and a close watch by school administration, NCFP students are constantly making greater efforts to achieve academic success.

Why is it important to come to the PSO event? Why can’t we just visit the website?

The event will give you a chance to interact with teachers, students and administrators and clarify any ambiguities by asking questions. This sort of engagement will not be possible through a website alone.

Will I get into a good university if I choose to enroll at NCFP?

The name of the A Level institution has no bearing on the candidate’s chances of getting admission or financial aid to universities in the US. What matters is the candidate’s accomplishments, both academic and extracurricular, and their ability to convey that in their application. There is plenty of research to support this claim. Universities confirm that as long as the A level school offers a globally recognized curriculum like the CIE, the years of existence of the institution make no difference – the brand of the institution makes no difference. One of the officers went so far as to say, “Whether the school is 1 month old or 100 years old – it does not matter”. At Harvard, for instance, home schooled students (i.e. private candidates) are not at a disadvantage relative to those who attended a prestigious private high school. When you enroll at NCFP, you will sit for the same examinations that approximately 250,000 students do around the globe. Your results are standardized and are measured against the same standards of academic excellence around the world. A Level candidates are encouraged to do the due diligence and directly contact their universities of interest. Ask them about the factors that are considered in the assessment of applications to their university. You have an obligation to yourself and to your parents to be a well informed consumer.

Will I get the opportunity to enroll at Nixor College Main Camus after my first year at NCFP?

Each student that is enrolled at the Foundation Program has the opportunity to transfer to Main Campus at the end of their first year provided that show signs of sustained academic progress throughout the year and achieve a minimum of 2As and 1B in their CIE AS Level Examinations.

Why is it more expensive to attend NCFP than Nixor College Main Campus?

In order to maintain the same standards of instruction as the Main Campus, every instructor that teaches at NCFP also teaches at the Main Campus, and therefore is entitled to the same rate of compensation. One unique feature of the Foundation Program is its smaller classes. These classes allow for a smaller faculty to student ratio. While this means greater face-time with an instructor and more opportunities to ask questions in class, it also results in a higher cost-per-student to the institution. Compromising on the quality of instruction is against the best interest of the student, and therefore the institution, and that is a compromise that we are unwilling to make. NCFP is approximately 30% more expensive to attend than Main Campus.

Will I get the same opportunities as students that are enrolled at Nixor College?

Absolutely! NCFP students are as much a part of structured extra-curricular activities as students from Main Campus. From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., academics is priority #1 on both campuses. At the end of the school day, students from NCFP are shuttled to the Main Campus to engage in sports, debates, and activities of Nixor Corporate. Many students from NCFP are members of the Nixor College sports teams, and serve as  Executives in several entities that make up Nixor Corporate. There is absolutely no discrimination for NCFP students to be a part of any activities that take place at Nixor College.

Does the Foundation Program serve as a precursor to an A Level program? Will I, in effect, lose a year?

While foundation programs typically serve to bridge the gap between two successive academic programs, the Nixor College Foundation Program is structured so that you do not lose any time during the pursuit of your educational career. It brings in all the elements that you would collectively find in a typical foundation program: top notch faculty, mandatory TA hours, smaller classes, and greater scrutiny to ensure academic progress; all without the cost of time.
