Nixor College Foundation Program
Unique Features
The Nixor administration feels that a strong educational institution is one that appreciates the individualized needs and contexts of its students. These students understand that in order to places themselves in well-reputed higher education institutions they must live up to the highest standards of academic excellence. The Nixor College Foundation program incorporates this philosophy in its academic policies. Elements of the academic program are highlighted below:
Teaching Assistants (TA's):
Nixor’s no tuition policy encourages students to increasingly take greater responsibility for their own learning. In addition to access to the best teaching resources, students at Nixor College Foundation Program are required to seek help from TA's during mandatory TA Hours. Every hour of faculty instruction is reinforced by an hour of TA instruction everyday. TAs are selected from the student body at Nixor College to provide learning support to their peers. TAs are selected by the teachers based on strong aptitude for a subject as well as the skills required to help their peers understand the subject matter. The peer-to-peer tutoring program bridges any gaps in students’ knowledge.
No Prerequisite Courses (NP):
These are courses that do not require an O level prerequisite. NP classes are offered in Accounts, Economics, Business Studies, Sociology, Psychology, and Mathematics. These are designed specifically for students who have not studied O Level Accounts, Economics and Additional Mathematics. NP classes start off with an introduction to O Level
concepts to get students up to speed with content knowledge required for A Levels.
NP courses offer O Level students with the flexibility to change their field of study at A Levels. They are an ideal option in cases where O Level subject choices do not match the student’s interests and or academic strength.
Acclerated Classes:
Accelerated subjects are combined AS & A2 syllabi taught in one academic year. The subjects offered as accelerated classes are Business Studies, Psychology, Sociology, Urdu and Mathematics.
They provide students with a chance to add to or change a subject mid-stream without missing any course content. Accelerated courses can be taken in the first or second year of A Levels based on the student’s preference and only with consent of an Academic Counselor
Electronic Attendance Monitoring:
Nixor strives to remain at the cutting edge of innovation rather than stick to tried and tested, but obsolete, methods of operation. Student attendance is monitored electronically when they swipe their ID's at the gate and also in each class they attend, allowing for more time for instruction in the classroom. Academic performance is also recorded electronically with real-time updates allowing parents, students, teachers, and administrators to have access to the newest information. Parents can access this information through Nixor PASS here.
Monthly SPU's and Attendance Letters:
In addition to Nixor PASS, the Nixor College Foundation Program takes additional measures to keep parents informed about their child's academic progress by sending out Student Progress Update and Attendance Letters every month. The SPU's indicate the students performance foreach month of the term, while the Attendance Letters reflect the percentage of classes a student has attended in a particular month. This allows parents to monitor their child's performance closely to ensure that they meet grade and attendance requirements as indicated in the schools Academic Policy.
